The Nottingham bloggers have become a bit of a force to be reckoned with, we’ve built giant inflatable structures, raised money for charity, raised awareness of Retts syndrome, tested spas, celebrated Christmas in October with John Lewis. Last Friday we took on Frankie and Benny’s cocktail menu.
Nine of us sampled two courses and two cocktails at the Nottingham city centre Frankie and Bennys (some of the group were sadly missed). I chose a Bramble, which includes gin, lemon juice, blackberry liqueur and lots of ice, perhaps a little too much ice as I soon found my brain freezing from the combination of ice and alcohol.
Maybe I am getting old and maybe I should have opted for cocktail from the ‘longer drinks’ section, but I’d like to have seen a little more juice. However, it tasted utterly fabulous and was a perfect limbering-up pre-dinner cocktail. I quickly developed Expresso Martini envy, and decided on this as my post dinner cocktail.
I really enjoyed my pizza, a popular option at our table, but being New York Italian themed there are also plenty of meat, fish and pasta dishes to choose from. Not huge numbers of vegetarian options, but I loved the generous and interesting mix of flavours on the California pizza, (nB. this isn’t labelled as a veggie option as not all the cheeses are veggie) Becky went for goats cheese and red onion instead which is veggie and looked equally fab.
We went down the main and pudding route and I went for Brownies and Ice Cream. These were perfectly portioned given the huge mains, with three Brownie ‘bites’ and a dollop of ice cream.
I rounded off with an Expresso Martini, which was the perfect after dinner cocktail. I might have been a bit tipsy by then, but I could have sworn it was smiling at me.
With two of the group off to London the next day for an event, one about to test a helicopter ride, all of us having kids and me being a lightweight, two cocktails was perfect. The group felt the price for 2 courses and 2 cocktails at £25 was very reasonable, the portions were generous and the service for a very busy Friday night, was very good.
It was as always lovely to hang out with my fellow bloggers. We might be labelled ‘mummy bloggers’ but we’re a diverse group, we blog about food, business, budgeting, lifestyle, arts, design, thrifting, fashion and comping, to name a few topics. Blogging and parenting are just two things we have in common. I think we can definitely add cocktails to the mix.
