Travel: A Romantic and Dog Friendly Hotel – Ox Pasture Hall

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Apart from being wonderfully romantic, Ox Pasture Hall, Yorkshire is also a dog friendly hotel.

Ox Pasture Hall Hotel is just a few miles outside Scarborough, so beautifully located for day trips to the coast, but there is no need to drive anywhere as there is beautiful woodland surrounding the hotel which is perfect for (dog) walking. A quick stroll from the hotel and you are straight onto North York Moors footpaths:

We were greeted so warmly by the staff and immediately felt at home. The hotel oozes character. I loved the textures and patterns here, autumn leaves, lichen, doorways and window frames.

I loved the view through this archway…

And I do have a thing about front doors, I have a whole door tour post from Malta.

After a warm welcome, and very quickly dropping off our bags,  we were ready to walk our eager dog. We looped round the back of Ox Pasture Hall and walked around the hotel’s lake.

We soon warmed up again with a cup of Yorkshire tea and some magazines, snuggled on the sofa in our suite. As you will see, the suite feels really homely, with a sitting room, generous sized bathroom and bedroom. It was like staying in your own cottage, but with all the facilities and amazing food and drink of the hotel.

The view over the lake was lovely.

Then afternoon tea called. He had eaten most of his, while I was still trying to take photos. Hands off the veggie egg and cress, and cream cheese and cucumber ones!

We debated whether to put jam or cream first. After some testing, we decided jam then cream was the best way. I couldn’t quite explain why though, it just is.

Afternoon Tea at Ox Pasture Hall Hotel certainly did what it says on the jar lid!

After more walking, reading and lazing about, it was time for dinner. We were offered dinner with our dog in the bar, or dinner without him in the restaurant.

It was a bit dark sadly to photograph the food, which was superb, but do check out the hotel menus. I had a really fresh minestrone soup with a range of delicious homemade breads, followed by a sensational mediterranean vegetable wellington, with just the most tasty vegetables on the side.  Mr A enjoyed his meat options, but as a veggie I am not going to dwell on them.  But I thought you should see this fantastic pudding creation.  All the presentation was wonderful and the service so friendly, we felt so at ease and relaxed.

I loved the Yorkshire cheese board.

The bed was very comfortable, and a lovely cosy room.

The bathroom was also fantastic, these taps filled the bath, which is huge, so fast.

Lovely shower too. I picked up quite a few bathroom ideas. I would say a real home from home, but in many ways  Ox Pasture Hall Hotel was much more homely than home. I certainly don’t think I have relaxed so much in 24 hours before.

Full English veggie breakfast, served in our room. The best poached eggs I have ever tasted.

When I opened the door into the dog friendly quarter of the hotel, it was lovely to hear a few other dogs wake up and bark momentarily. At so many dog friendly hotels you feel as if your pet is just being tolerated, but at Ox Pasture they are genuinely welcomed. At the same time, they are in a separate area of the hotel, so those without dogs, or with allergies need not worry.

We were given a big bowl of dog food when we forgot to bring some, and the hotel will supply towels and baths if your dog gets mucky on a walk.

Do check out the Ox Pasture Hotel, I would heartily recommend this place to anyone looking for romance, a chance to unwind or a place to take their dog, or all three! It’s rare to find a romantic and dog friendly hotel, I really think this is quite a find!
