Easy Appetisers to Serve this Festive Season

Serve up something mouth-watering this Christmas with these three easy appetisers, all made using the humble muffin tin. Your best friend during holiday season; line each section of your muffin tin with pastry dough, fill with either one of these yummy fillings and pop them in the oven. Simple but oh-so delicious.
Easy Festive Appetiser Recipes
Brie + Prosciutto + Pomegranate Seeds
Ingredients
(serves 12)
1 sheet puff pastry (thawed)
1 Brie wheel (cut into 12 pieces)
12 slices of thinly cut prosciutto
3/4 cup pomegranate seeds
1 egg beaten with 1 tablespoon water
Honey (for drizzling)
Method
Preheat oven to 200°C and lightly grease muffin tin. Unroll the puff pastry sheet, cut it into 3' x 3' squares then place each directly into the muffin cups. Next, wrap a piece of Brie with a slice of prosciutto then place into the centre of the muffin cup until you have 12.
Top with 1 tbsp pomegranate seeds and fold the pastry corners up around the filling, twisting to secure. Brush lightly with egg wash and bake for 15 minutes or until pastry is golden brown. Remove and allow to cool, then drizzle with honey.
Fontina + Mushrooms + Italian Sausage
Ingredients
(Serves 12)
1 sheet puff pastry (thawed)
1/2 pound Italian sausage (ground)
1 tbsp unsalted butter
1 cup cremini mushrooms (sliced)
3/4 cup diced Fontina cheese
1/4 cup finely chopped parsley
Method
Preheat oven to 200°C and lightly grease muffin tin. Unroll the puff pastry sheet, cut it into 3' x 3' squares then place each directly into the muffin cups. Bake for 10 minutes or until pastry is golden brown.
Next, brown the Italian sausage and set aside. In the same skillet, heat butter and sauté mushrooms. Layer each baked muffin cup with sausage, mushrooms and cheese then bake for five additional minutes or until cheese is golden and bubbling. Remove and allow to cool, finally sprinkling with parsley.
Blue Cheese + Pears + Fig Jam
Ingredients
(Serves 12)
1 sheet puff pastry (thawed)
2 pears, peeled, quartered and sliced
¾ cup blue cheese crumbles
3 tablespoons fig jam
Walnuts for sprinkling
Method
Preheat oven to 200°C and lightly grease muffin tin. Unroll the puff pastry sheet, cut it into 3' x 3' squares then place each directly into the muffin cups. Bake for 10 minutes or until pastry is golden brown.
Remove then add two pear slices and a sprinkling of blue cheese crumbles to each muffin cup. Top with a good dollop of the fig jam and bake five minutes or until cheese is fully melted. Remove and allow to cool, then top with walnuts.
