How to Throw Your Own Pride Party

Celebrate every colour of the rainbow.

June is International Pride Month – and with lockdown easing up, it’s the ideal time to come together and show your support for the LGBTQ+ community. To celebrate, Wayfair stylist Aurelien Farjon and his partner Fernando have put together a fabulous Pride party ‘get the look’. Together with Patrick Tang (co-lead of WayOut Berlin, Wayfair’s LGBTQ+ employee resource group), Aurelien and Patrick also share their insights into why it’s important to remember that Pride is about more than just rainbows...

How to Style Your Pride Party

The motto of the day is to ‘Go big!’, so get your garden party-ready with festive decor. A rainbow flag acts as a symbol of all encompassing love for the LGBTQ+ community and you can turn up the style dial by making the rest of your party decorations just as colourful. We love how easy it is to transform your space with rainbow-toned tassel garlands and streamers! A styled arch will create extra impact.

To keep costs manageable, decide on one or two signature drinks. That way you won’t need a fully stocked bar to make your guests happy. Serve in disco-inspired cocktail glasses for extra pizazz.

Serve rainbow-inspired food, such as rainbow cake or sandwiches with spreads in a variety of bright hues. Finger food that can be eaten in one or two bites with a napkin or wooden skewer is ideal (and makes clean-up a breeze).

For an easy but effective eye-catcher, arrange flowers in a variety of rainbow hues in tall glass vases. Add a few drops of food colouring to the water to match the flower.

Set the tone and maintain the energy at your Pride Party with an upbeat playlist. Ask your guests to provide their favourite anthems in advance, for a loud and proud music mix.

What Pride Means to Me: Aurelien Farjon

“PRIDE is a great reminder to feel PROUD. The more you embrace who you are, the brighter your light shines, the more people can enjoy it, and the more light you get back in return!”

What Pride Means to Me: Patrick Tang (Co-lead of WayOut, Wayfair’s LGBTQ+ Employee Resource Group)

“Every year we celebrate PRIDE across the globe, appreciating the beauty of diversity in the world. At Wayfair we are fully committed to diversity and inclusion and work hard to enable everyone to feel that they can be their true authentic selves at work. Within WayOut, Wayfair’s employee resource group for the LGBTQ+ community and its allies, we support the community and aim to drive positive change in both the company and in the world.”
