Types of Chandeliers
Candle-Style: Classic candle-style chandeliers bring heritage and formal charm to any room. Though they come in a wide variety of materials and styles, all feature candelabra-style arms that hold faux candles. Some even come with a lighting setting that mimics real candlelight.
Shaded: Available in almost any style, shaded chandeliers provide warmer, dimmer light than candle-style chandeliers. The shades can be upward or downward-facing, fluted or straight and transparent or opaque.
Drum: In this chandelier design, one or multiple large lamp shades encompass the entire fixture. As with the others, drum chandeliers can be found in any style. Modern adaptations are common due to the versatility of the drum shade.
Crystal: These lights have a glamorous, traditional look that's sure to be eye-catching. Light reflects off each individual crystal, which creates romantic and enchanting lighting in any room. Crystal chandeliers can be pricey, especially when made out of real crystal.
Sputnik: Modern and avant-garde, sputnik chandeliers make excellent accent lighting pieces in contemporary rooms. Spindles tipped with light bulbs emanate from central spines, often in a sun-burst shape but sometimes in other simple, geometric shapes.
Square/Rectangle: Light fixtures are enclosed by or hang from geometric metal or wood shapes in these chandeliers. Square/rectangle chandeliers are contemporary and tend to be less ornate in style.
Globe: Elegant spheres encompass the branches of light in globe chandeliers. These designs are modern and the orb cages are often made of metal.
Wagon Wheel: One or more large, light-affixed metal rings are suspended from a chain in these chandeliers. Simple and sleek, these designs typically lack ornamentation and can be made to fit into any style home.
Empire: In empire chandeliers, rods or strings of beads or crystals cascade from an upper cone down into a larger bowl shape of the same makeup. The light fixtures can be either external, on an encircling ring or internal in these elegant and dynamic chandeliers.
Lantern: Lantern-shaped open cages hold these light fixtures, perfectly marrying modern with vintage. These chandeliers are great if you’re looking for a more stylised version of a geometric fixture.
