Spring Decorating Ideas You Can Pull Off in a Weekend

A seasonal spruce up.

spring decor ideas

As we lean into March and the days start to get a little longer, it's the perfect time to hit refresh on our home's decor. Think colourful blooms, fresh scents and warmer tones. Set aside a little time this weekend and add some of these spring refreshes to your home. Read more about our favorite spring decor ideas below.

1. Swap Colour Palettes

spring decor ideas to try at home

Stick to easy and simple updates that you can pull off in a weekend. Maybe you can switch out the colour palette from wintery jewel tones to warm yellows and browns. Use this new palette to pick out items that are easy to swap out, like a patterned rug or cushion covers. If you can, choose cushion covers with woven textures to liven up the sofa or bed. While we love a new scatter cushion, sometimes the old ones can take up too much cupboard space, which is why we gravitate toward swapping out the covers for spring.

2. Redecorate Surface Spaces

Another easy spring update is to reorganise and redecorate the surfaces spaces in your home. A new plant or a bunch of flowers will usher in that fresh spring feeling. Place bright florals in a matte ceramic vase; the organic silhouette is ideal for spring. Tidy up the books on your coffee table and set out a candle with a fresh scent like eucalyptus or linen.

Look beyond the coffee table to some of the other surfaces in your home. Perhaps the bookcase? Or the bar cart? Playing with shades like aqua blue and sage green are some of our favourite spring decor ideas as these colours pop in neutral rooms. Keep things simple by using a decorative tray to create a little vignette or use decorative boxes to hide remotes and chargers.

Finally, add some natural decor elements to freshen up the living room and bring the outside in. For example, consider a new wooden bowl, ceramic piece, wood candlestick holders or driftwood branch.

3. Reinvigorate With Patterns

Spring decor ideas should be, above anything, fun. The kitchen and dining areas in your home are some of the best places to infuse fresh, fun decor. This spring, add traditional florals with a fresh twist. Lighten up the dining table with a floral tablecloth or placemats in bright, zingy colours like tangerine, periwinkle and saffron. The best part about florals? They can easily camouflage spills. Swap out the kitchen towels for a perky new set.

4. Lighten Up

This spring, we're wanting lighting that doubles as art. Choose lighting with an industrial aesthetic, like this brass statement chandelier. Or go mid-century modern with globe pendant lights. Don't want to replace overhead lights? Opt for a new floor lamp with graceful curves or pick out a new lamp shade to give height to an old table lamp. While you're updating the light fixtures, make thoughtful adjustments like adding dimmer switches where you can. You'll be able to create a relaxing bathroom or bedroom atmosphere whenever you want. It will also save energy and money over time.

5. Refresh Bedding

This weekend is a great time to put away heavy winter blankets and toss a lightweight throw on your bed. All-white bedding is great for brightening up winter blues, but spring is your chance to bring colour back into your home. This year, we're gravitating toward watercolor washes. These are the softer, washed-out versions of last year's vibrant spring palette. To achieve this look, choose bedding in muted coral, sage green or ashy blue. Keep it simple by using the white sheets and pillowcases from winter and layer coloured blankets and throw pillows on top.

6. Energise the Walls

Styling a big wall in an hallway or living room can be a lot of fun, and it's often not as time-consuming as you'd expect. Take a Sunday afternoon to reframe your art and build out a gallery wall. You can also get black-and-white prints of family photos you love and place them in matching frames. If you've got a full weekend to spare, change up your wallpaper. It's the one update you can make that will have the biggest impact.

Tip: Bring spring beyond the hallway and onto the front porch with a few quick updates. If you have time, repot plants in new planters. Ceramic planters for spring are ideal. You can also add window boxes to the front windows for a unified floral look. If you want an easier update, simply hang a spring wreath on the front door.

7. Incorporate Natural Materials

Spring is a great time for a refresh, which is why we're indulging in some new natural materials. Update your bathroom with fresh bath and hand towels. Choose a set that's made from 100% cotton for that soft, spa-like feeling. Rattan, cane, and woven leather are breezy and approachable materials – and they're great for any furniture or room in your home.
