Think About Furnishings

A small lounge corner is essential for a real holiday feeling. Choose a lounge set in light cream shades and complement it with colourful, textured cushions and blankets, to immediately give the area that Ibiza flair. Don’t forget the most practical addition - a mosaic style side table is always trendy.

Pouffes and stools in all shapes, colours and styles are perfect for a small balcony. Fringes and small ornaments make the space-saving seating look even more comfortable as well as more decorative. Whether you want to achieve a chic Ibiza look, dreamy Arabian nights feel or a zen oasis - pouffes are the ideal solution.

A vertical garden is a real space saver for small outdoor spaces like a balcony. Here, our green favourites can be artistically staged on three floors in an easy and simple way. Use the additional space to create your own herb and vegetable garden, as a raised bed offers the ideal area for this.

Small balcony decoration ideas

Decoration

During Summer, add decorations that conjure up a relaxed and effortless boho vibe, such as wall hangings and outdoor carpets. For an extra portion of cosiness, feel free to use two or three carpets in different patterns and colours and simply drape them over each other to create a layering look. And don't overlook their practical value! While wall hangings can provide extremely decorative visual protection on the balcony railings, the easy-to-clean outdoor carpets are also great for sunbathing.

If you're struggling with a smaller area, you can easily use the space above. A decorative wooden ladder in teak offers space for hanging succulents, small lanterns or practical storage space for woollen blankets for cooler evenings. Ceiling-mounted hanging chairs also leave the floor space free and convey a feeling of lightness.

Adding plants to a small balcony

Adding Plants and Greenery

Colourful, sweeping or delicate - there are plants for every balcony. When deciding on what greenery to add, make sure you consider whether your plant picks will need sun, shade or a mix of both. Also, think about which vibe you want to create. If you're looking to build a Mediterranean feel, you can use plants such as lavender and eucalyptus. These are not only evergreen, but also come with an enchanting scent.

The perfect complement to a decorative Buddha and Zen balcony are grasses and reeds, which will often still look great even if you sometimes forget to water them. Robust succulents also go well. Don't forget to put add hints of colour in your plants, pots or cushions, otherwise it could become too monotonous.

Balcony plants can be more than just a decoration in the corner. For those who want a practical green oasis, herbs are just the right 'balcony accessory'. Thyme, sage, mint, basil... the choices are endless. A top tip is to add the flower petals or spicy leaves in a Summer cocktail or tea afterwards.

Incorporating Colours and Materials

Fresh, bright colours in soft shades of green, pink and yellow not only give your balcony that instant Summer feeling, but also make the surface appear lighter and much larger. We can very quickly and easily integrate these trending colours through textiles such as cushions, blankets and outdoor carpets.

Mix & match is the motto! Even in Spring/Summer we just can't get enough of natural materials like wood, rattan and cotton. For a modern touch, combine the basics with accessories made of metal, glass and colourful ceramics.

Consider Your Lighting

Ideally, you want to enjoy your evenings spent on your balcony to the fullest, so thankfully you don’t need much to create the right ambience. Lanterns, votives and fairy lights, which you can artistically drape around the balcony railing.

DIY - Easy-care Floral Decoration

Cutting and styling flowers in the blazing Summer sun usually give us only brief joy. That is why we are now using long-lasting dried flowers! The trendy decoration can be designed in no time at all and according to your own colour wishes. All we need are spray cans from the DIY store and two or three different dried flowers. My tip: pastel colours and fluffy-light pampas grass are particularly beautiful in a summery bouquet.

From Old to New

Got some old flower pots that seem outdated? With a little spray paint, you can give worn pots a fresh ombré upgrade in seconds. To start, create a primer with a basic colour of your choice and then simply spray another colour along the edge of the pot, going slightly over the basic colour.

Quarantini

A wonderfully fresh Summer drink offers the perfect way to cool off and you don’t actually need much for a fabulous refresher. Raspberries and blueberries not only give us an extra vitamin boost but are also a real eye-catcher - an upgrade for any drink. If you prefer something more bitter, you can mix yourself a small mocktail. For this, we press fresh oranges and apples together with some ginger beer or tonic water and decorate the whole thing with thyme - from your own cultivation, of course. Voila: the perfect sundowner for your balcony.
