It's not white, it's a very hardly, if at all, painted, off white mostly woody. It also has a strange back piece. Followed instructions correctly, as there's no other way to fit it without gaps. You fit the two back pieces together into a central bar, but then that bar can only fit where the shelf is. So protrudes at the back, and is visible from the front. No idea why it isn't cut to just meet the two pieces in the middle and be nailed. Also, you can see the big holes for screws very visibly. Fine, folds my books. But it's low quality finish
