I am genuinely so impressed with this desk and chair. I bought it so my children could do their homework and it is a good fit for both my 5 and 8 year olds. The instructions are idiot proof, with every piece/bag of fittings labelled with a letter or number that corresponds to the instructions appropriately. The finish is beautiful and it feels sturdy, even with my two heavy-handed children. I am someone that researches excessively before making a purchase and this is the exact product for me - easy to put together, decent price point, compact yet big enough for both of my children (using it separately), sturdy and sleek finish. The storage area is really handy and means that my children do not waste 45 minutes a day looking for their pencils! The hinges hold the lid open at two different heights and are sturdy; it takes an intentional push to collapse the lid and even then, this happens slowly.
Two small tips: when adding the second hinge, don't be afraid to pull it beyond where you think it moves as this is the only way to attach it to both the lid and the desk. Also, if the chair legs threading (the bit you put screws in) does not align when you are trying to attach them to the chair seat, look at the end of the leg as there is a countersunk screw that will allow you to easily adjust this alignment with a flathead screwdriver.
