6 Ways to Style Spring Flowers in your Home
Blooming marvellous!
Whether you consider yourself to have green thumbs or not, introducing florals to your décor is one of the easiest ways to give your home a seasonal update. Not only are flowers natural endorphin boosters, they help to introduce bursts of colour to your space and can be used to highlight a focal piece of furniture. Read ahead for more tips on how to style spring flowers in your home.
Perfect Prep
If you buy fresh flowers, spend a little bit of time on prep and they'll last longer. Snip off the ends so they can absorb the nutrients from the water efficiently, and strip any leaves from the stems which will sit in water (or they can go mouldy). Hold the stems alongside a counter edge to see how high-up the flower will rest if you want to ensure that you have an even display. Finally, some plant food can go a long way to increasing their lifespan.
Colour Codes
Stick to odd numbers when picking colours for your flowers—1, 3 or 5. This mimics nature and prevents your space from looking too overwhelmed. Green, white and yellow is a classic spring combination, while purple, pink and yellow is easy to achieve considering what's in season: tulips, daffodils, pansies, peonies, pink roses and dahlias.
Branch Out
Don't forget about other foliage when creating your spring flower arrangements. Branches and blossom are great for breaking things up and adding some diversity. Use them to hang small seasonal ornaments or consider decorating them with colourful bows made of ribbon. Potted plants, terrariums and trailing leaves are also great for complementing your floral blooms.
Vase About
Clear glass vases are a classic option, but they can quickly reveal murky water - try opaque vases instead, and don't forget to experiment with shape and colour. If you're looking for something a bit different, why not display your flowers in jugs, bowls, mugs, baskets or even egg cups.
On the Surface
One of the best things about flowers is that they can be displayed in any room in your home. Play around with surfaces on different height levels to create a diverse effect, for instance the
coffee table, the windowsill and on top of a high wall shelf. Bookcases, mantelpieces and dining tables are also classic choices but bear in mind what existing décor you have so as not to saturate your space.
Go Faux
If you don't have the time for flower maintenance, don't forget about artificial flowers. They've come a long way in the last few years and made a huge resurgence in interior trends. Not only do they require minimal effort, but they can be enjoyed year-on-year.
