Cupcake Flags
Sometimes a short and sweet message in an unexpected place can be the loveliest one of all. Surprise your loved ones with extra special cupcakes this Valentine's or pop a romantic mini flag into your partner's lunch box!
Instructions
1. Bake and decorate your cupcakes, allowing them to cool completely between each stage.
2. Fill your printer with the A4 paper and print out the cupcake flags: Download printables!
You Will Need
- A4 computer paper or craft paper
- Colour printer
- Scissors
- Glue stick
- Toothpicks or cocktail sticks
- **Our cupcake flags template: **Download printables here
Our tip! Use plain white paper for a brighter, shiny look or cream-coloured paper for a more vintage aesthetic.
3. For each cupcake, cut out one 1.5cm x 14cm flag from the template.
4. Find the centre point of the flag and fold it in half with the design facing outwards. With the blank sides facing inwards, place the toothpick or cocktail stick in the middle fold. Spread a thin layer of glue on one half of the blank side of the flag and press it together with the other blank half.
Our tip! Let your flags dry completely before decorating your cupcakes with them. If you don't have a glue stick and are using PVA glue, remember to give your flags extra time to dry and watch out for any drips.
5. You should now have an assembled cupcake flag! Place a flag in each cupcake. Share your sweets with your sweetheart!

You Will Need
- A4 computer paper
- Colour printer
- Scissors
- Glue stick
- Bamboo skewers (or paper straws, kebab sticks, or wooden dowels)
- Baker's twine or yarn
- Our cake bunting template: Download printables here
Instructions
1. Bake or buy a cake or a pie.
2. Fill your printer with A4 paper and print out the cake bunting: Download printables!
3. Cut out the diamonds with the corresponding letter you need for your message.
4. Once you have the individual diamonds cut out, you'll fold them in half from top to bottom with the design facing outwards and the blank sides facing in.
Our tip! Folding them perfectly can be a bit tricky, so drawing a faint line width-wise across the centre of the blank side of the diamond or creasing it before folding will help you create a row of straight, even triangles.
5. Cut a length of baker's twine the width of your cake plus a few extra centimetres on either side so you have enough string to attach to the bamboo skewers at the end.
6. Lay the string out on a flat surface and arrange your letters in the order and spacing you prefer.
Our tip! For a large sheet cake, go wild with 'Happy Valentine's Day!' or keep it short with 'I ♥ U' for small cakes / pies.
7. Put a thin layer of glue on one side of the blank triangles and press together with the other blank side.
Our tip! If you leave a space near the crease glue-free, you'll be able to move the triangles around to achieve the perfect look!
8. Attach the string to one bamboo skewer with a simple knot, and then anchor that skewer in your cake or pie, about a cm or two from the edge.
Insert your other skewer into the opposite side of the cake and attach the other end of the bunting!
