A Calming Grey Bedroom Makeover

Here's a bedroom revamp that makes the best of fifty shades of grey.

Last year we built a big extension on our house, and, as a result, ending up decorating most of our rooms. The one room we hadn't got round to revamping was our bedroom. It was cluttered, dated and generally a bit chaotic.

After Christmas, we decided it was time to give it an update. I wanted our bedroom to be a calming sanctuary with a luxurious feel. With three small children, having somewhere that is a bit of a retreat from the chaos and toys is essential!

Here's what it looked like before:

Decide on a Colour Theme

I decided to go with a grey and white theme and chose a light grey colour for all of the walls. The colour is quite subtle but it really opens up the room and provides a calming effect.

The carpet was old and tired, and didn't fit with the new colour theme, so we replaced it with a thick, luxurious pale grey, which is lovely to walk on with bare feet.

Declutter

We removed all the furniture and clutter from the room and added in a new king size divan bed (with storage drawers) and a dark grey fabric headboard, which provides a key feature for the room. I also added new white bedside tables with crystal handles that I added myself to give them an extra touch of luxury.

The existing curtains were re-used, but the white wooden curtain pole was replaced with a chrome pole, featuring two crystal balls.

Dress the Room

Next came the essential step of dressing the room. Adding the right accessories is a key element to ensuring that you get the right look and feel. They also really help to complete the look.

The bed was dressed with plain white bedding and a selection of different-sized grey cushions. I think these really help to give the room a hotel feel and make the plain bedding look more luxurious.

I chose some lovely and large bedside lamps to add glamorous features to the room. These work really well with the statement headboard and are in keeping with the crystal theme.

To complement the rest of the room and add a few finishing touches, I added feature photo frames and candles to the bedside tables and windowsill. These keep the room from feeling too stark and also complement the other bits and pieces in the room.

Enjoy!

I'm really happy with the finished look. It is much more modern and calming. There's no longer clutter everywhere and it feels so much more luxurious. I hope this piece reassures you that quick bedroom makeovers are easily achievable. Good luck with yours!
