Inspired by the Wildwood Spa’s nature-inspired design, Resident Style Advisor, Nadia McCowan Hill, shares her top five tips to cosy up your home for Autumn, and tap into one of the leading interiors trends for this season and beyond…

As we emerge from the turbulence of the last two years, reconnecting with the outside world, relaxation and restoration has never been more important. Biophilic design has been an emerging interior trend that aims to connect us with nature in order to improve both our productivity and health. The Wildwood Spa embodies all elements of biophilia and its look can be easily be recreated at home

Reconnect

Creating a space that reconnects us with nature, means choosing natural, neutral pieces. A base colour palette of pale woods, contrasting metal and soft stone can be enhanced with layers of forest green, ochre and pops of pastel pink and violets. Think about every detail - how rugs will feel underfoot, what kind of lighting and brightness they will give off will help you to feel most at home and relaxed. Every element will add to the overall picture you are trying to create.

Cosy up

Cosy up indoor and outside spaces to create an inviting cocoon to curl up in, with decorative touches that will keep you warm whilst adding the wow factor. Swap out light summer cotton cushions for heavier fabrics options - luxe velvet, warm wool, chunky knits and faux fur. Layering different sizes and fabrics is the perfect way to create a cocooning environment with strong visual interest. This applies in lots of different areas, from outdoor seating set ups, the living room, bedrooms and dining areas.

Create Ambience

Lighting is key to add ambience and warmth to your space. For an instant mood boost hang softly glittering string lights from wall to wall, or in your outdoor space hang festoon lights to lighten up dark winter days and evenings. A dark corner can be instantly lifted with a table lamp, which can add the overall theme - choose complimentary natural materials like this rustic rattan minimalist design. An outdoor fireplace will provide the perfect spot to gather round, creating a focal point in your outdoor space.

Forage for Foliage

What better way to bring the outdoors in than to do so quite literally! Plenty of greenery, dried flowers and branches styled in vases will soften the space, whilst providing the opportunity to incorporate seasonal touches, including Eucalyptus, Holly and berries. It’s also a lovely weekend activity on a dry autumn day, getting outside for fresh air and to be inspired by the colours of the season.

Natural Light

As winter begins to set in and day light levels reduce, making the most of natural light in your home is key. If you’re working from home, it might be worth rethinking your desk set up. Without the glare and heat of bright summer sun on your screen, repositioning your workspace to allow for some extra natural light flow could help to increase your mood and productivity. Use large mirrors to maximise light, whilst they will also help to create a greater sense of space.

To be in with a chance of winning a 2-night stay for two at the one-of-a-kind Scandi-style spa retreat in North Devon, all you have to do is enter the exclusive competition.
