Inspiration: The Royal Ceremonial Dress Collection is a designated collection of national and international importance, cared for by Historic Royal Palaces. It contains over 10,000 items of historic dress from the 16th century to the present day, all of which tell a story of the history of fashion, life at court, British ceremonial traditions, and the lives of key historical figures and the people they encountered. The collection contains items of clothing worn by royalty, including George III, Queen Victoria, Queen Elizabeth II, Princess Margaret, and Diana, Princess of Wales.

Romantic and timeless, Victoria Sprigs recalls a young Queen Victoria’s 1843 floral embroidered silk dress, highly fashionable of the time. Newly married to Prince Albert, the design is steeped in elegance, perfect for creating a space that recalls stories of royal romances. Soft tones of rose pink and opal are paired with earthy greens, embroidered onto a classic 200-thread-count cotton percale base and finished with a refined knife edge finish. Inspiration: Inspired by a dress worn by Queen Victoria c1843, of ivory silk satin with cream gauze overlay and embroidered panels of flowers and leaves executed in silk and metal threads in satin stitch. Queen Victoria gave her dress as a gift to the interior decorator, John Gregory Crace (1809-89), for his wife Sarah Jane Hine Langley (1815-94). This was in gratitude for his role in the Great Exhibition of 1851, which he collaborated on with her husband, Prince Albert. For Sarah Crace to receive such a personal gift from Queen Victoria must have been a great honour and token of friendship.

This is beautiful looking bedding but sadly I’m returning as it just isn’t exactly as I thought. The imagery shows lovely tie side pillowcases but actually they aren’t part of the set which is fine however each of the pillow cases has a huge ‘historic royal palace’ label stitched on the front which isn’t shown in the photos and ruins the item. This label is also at the based of the duvet cover. I can’t be sure it will remove and not leave holes/marks so I’m returning the bedding. This blanket achieves a historical look, with two reversible colours, without looking gaudy. It has deep, muted tones with a subtle pattern that looks like it could’ve been found in Hampton Court. *The fabric* 100 cotton but not that thin. Inspiration: This magnificent Mantua takes its name from a style of court gown, originally inspired by fashions associated with Italy and Spitalfields in London, where these beautiful garments were made. Emerging in the late 1600s, the Mantua became a powerful symbol of wealth and status. Measuring an impressive 210cm in width, the dramatic scale allowed the wearer to display the quantity and quality of the luxurious fabric they could afford. When making an entrance at court, a woman wearing a Mantua, would have to enter sideways as the width of her skirt would have been too wide for most doorways. She would then turn to face her audience, opening like a fan to dramatic effect. The white brocaded ground of the fabric is characteristic of English woven silk and represents the best in Spitalfields weaving, which was renowned for its exceptional skill and craftsmanship.
