Cheap cardboard backing, not worth the money. Back cardboard didn't match up either.

Huge waste of money for multiple reasons. First - It is not rigid. It sways sideways badly. Even with the tip-over cleat attached at the top, it wobbles from side to side like jello at the slightest touch. The side will need to be screwed to the wall at the top and middle to stabilize it. This type of construction usually has a rigid backing, a thin sheet of plywood or masonite, to prevent sideways movement. This uses what they are calling cardboard, see below. Second - Each shelf is two parts, to be assembled, the shelf and the nosing (facing). All of the pilot holes for assembly are 1/8” off center. It’s very noticeable, see photo Third - The backing was advertised as cardboard, but it's really just thick paper that came torn where it’s folded. Note to potential buyers: The four 5 star reviews are from the "Neighbors Program”. Wayfair describes that as, “This reviewer received a free product or an incentive for reviewing their purchase." So I purchased a Murphy bed with shelves on each side. Unfortunately, the shelves they sent me did not fit in the room so I ordered two smaller shelves for the bed and put the Murphy bed shelves on the adjacent walls on their own. This is a great little bookshelf, fits perfectly where I needed it.

I wish I had checked the 1 star reviews before purchasing this bookcase. This is by far the worst item of flat pack furniture I have ever purchased. The only positive is the assembly instructions which clearly and easily shows how this poorly conceived product goes together. Each panel and shelf is helpfully marked with a sticker to identify it. Less helpfully, when the stickers are peeled off the finished bookcase the veneer also peels off leaving a sticker sized rip. This is how I discovered that the veneer is just paper with no protective surface. As a tall bookcase, with the sides in two parts I presumed that the mechanical joints would be solid. They are not. A single long screw and two stubby little metal screws on each side that slide into two cam locks, two of which snapped while tightening them. The back is cardboard and offers no additional strengthening. I attached a 5mm plywood panel to the rear myselt to add some solid structure to the joint between the upper and lower half. The lips beneath each shelf *appear* to offer some rigidity to the shelf. But they really just attach to the underside of the shelf. While each screw hole is slightly misaligned so that none of the lips are flush with the edge of shelf. Or create a small gap between the left and right side. They mostly just reduce the amount of space to accomodate books and shelf space. Lose them and there's probably space for another shelf. The finish on the edge of some panels shows where either the paper veneer has been rubbed off in transit, or passed whatever low quality controls were in place at the factory. I was underwhelmed.
