No problem with assembly. They can easily be finished further with paint, varathane wood paint-stain, etc., if you want to design them into their new environment. Only warning, they are made from very light "tropical pine?" wood that is very easy to bruise (dent). The height of the unit is excellent for my use as I put two units side by side behind my sofa, creating a lot of storage space with the upper book shelf for leaning paintings and the under shelf for speakers, decorations, etc.
