Is it worth the hassle? Probably. The material is real wood, not processed MDF. This means it looks expensive when finished, but finishing this bookcase will require tenacity. Pieces are small, thin and brittle. I could not drive the nails without cracking the shelves. Most of the holes are not pre-drilled. I ended up buying 3 boxes of screws, pre-drilling pilot holes and gluing the front slats. It took more than 10 hours to put together the whole unit. Is the result worth it? If you liked the size and the style, and assuming you reached the same conclusion as me that the price is at an attractive level, probably, yes.

Reasonable value for money, you must be DIY proficient.

Really well made solid bookcase, really happy with it. It is, however, a very difficult assemble (every piece is separate and needs gluing). But very good quality when done. The only thing is the drill holes are visible so need going over with a sharpie etc.
