Black Lacquer

This style of table or desk, with a carved shelf or footrest at the bottom, appeared during the Chinese Qing dynasty and is similar in style to many modern-day console tables. The shelf on the version replicates their own Ming Carved Screen, a design dating from the Ming Dynasty and made up of individually carved pieces of wood which are then joined together. Together with the circular brass hardware, this gives it an unmistakable oriental feel. The table has two drawers and a rattan panel inlaid into the top, making it more hard-wearing for use either as a desk or a display table.

This console table has been constructed from 100% solid mango wood in an oak-ish finish and offers a unique shaped design with rounded edges. It features one small drawer with a shiny brass knob and Nordic style legs. A great simple and add to the bedroom.

Bloomsbury Market recommends this unique and versatile style console made of MDF for an exotic oriental look in your hallway or lounge. It is ideal for storing small accessories in the 3 vertical drawers. The hinges are visible in leaf shape and the handles are round rings, all made of antique Eastern-style metal. It has decorative round locks with a key bolt and a tassel with a chain to close the 2 doors, which also have a magnet for better closing.

This table may look contemporary but its distinctive oriental style is in fact hundreds of years old. The rolled scroll effect at the table's feet was common in Chinese furniture from the Qing dynasty (1644 - 1911), but this simple type of construction was developed even before the earlier Ming Dynasty. The Chinese used these tables not only to hold offerings to ancestors but also as general display tables. The version is hand-made from reclaimed elm and looks beautiful in a hall or reception room.
