Definitely more black than brown, although advertised as espresso. Assembly took about 2 hours and I needed an extra person to help when it was time to fit the two sides together -- lots of screws and dowels to get perfectly aligned, but we did it. Two of the cam lock bolts would never grip, but not in critical locations, so just left them. Very tall and heavy, so DEFININTELY needs to be anchored to the wall, but the wall anchoring hardware that was included was two tiny brackets and a ziptie. I used them but I have teenagers not young children that might be tempted to climb! Leans forward a bit, so I will put some tiny shims under front corner to level it up the wall.
