Works great, but started rusting after a couple weeks

We love our new fountain. We ended up purchasing a metal cat litter box, turned it upside down and using it as a base. UPDATE ON REVIEW: We have noticed after it being up for 2 weeks, where the water comes out, the lip is rusting. I thought this was stainless steel and it's not supposed to rust. NOW WHAT DO I DO??

Rusted... had another sent to us, and it rusted as well. Not stainless steel as described. Very disappointing, as we loved it at first.
