A Little Touch of the Côte d’Azur Our new umbrella was shading six people within half an hour of being delivered and it immediately made the garden feel ready for summer. We chose this unusually large rectangular design because it is perfectly shaped for our outdoor corner sofa. It provides approximately four metres of coverage, comfortably shading the whole seating area rather than leaving people constantly moving their chairs to escape the sun. It would work equally well over a large outdoor dining table. Assembly was remarkably straightforward, and we were using it within 30 minutes of its arrival. Opening and closing it is just as simple the crank mechanism operates smoothly and worked perfectly from the outset. The included sand-and-water base gives the umbrella a reassuringly solid foundation, and it has felt extremely sturdy in the light wind we have experienced so far. The golden-yellow canopy is the real highlight. Against the green of the garden, it brings to mind the sun-soaked terraces of the South of France and gives the entire space a warm Côte d’Azur atmosphere. As the photographs show, it is bold without overwhelming the garden, making our seating area look considerably more stylish. It is still very new, so I cannot yet comment on long-term durability. My only small preference would be for more natural or organic materials, although the existing construction feels sturdy and practical. Fantastic parasol! We all love the crank handle and take it in turns to put up or take down the parasol, apart from being fun to use it is extremely practical and gives plenty of shade on our South-West facing deck. I bought the 'Forest Green' parasol because I read somewhere that darker colours give deeper shade, it also blends beautifully in the garden. I like the construction of the parasol, very sturdy but there is also a certain amount of flexibility so it isn't so completely rigid that it blows over in the slightest breeze. I use a very heavy base to keep the parasol upright and tend to move the furniture around the parasol rather than constantly changing the position of the parasol. I also bought a cover which protects the parasol from rain and UV rays when not in use, this was a very sound investment and I believe I will be using the Berry 3m Traditional Parasol for many years to come..
