Glen Affric is one of Scotland's most beloved glens - a place where lochs lie like glass between rounded hills, where Caledonian pinewoods cling to slopes and where the air seems to hold an older kind of quiet. This travel poster celebrates that silence and the sense of discovery you feel arriving in the Highlands: a valley shaped by ice and time, threaded with rivers and dotted with ancient trees, where red deer still move like shadows at dusk and golden eagles wheel overhead.
Walking Glen Affric is to follow a long, layered history. The glen contains remnants of the original Caledonian Forest, a landscape that once stretched across much of northern Britain. Its name recalls the Gaelic heritage of the Highlands and a culture of crofting, storytelling and close knowledge of the land. You can sense the human story here too - old paths, deserted townships and the echo of clans who read the land for shelter and sustenance. Those stories fold neatly into the scenery, lending the place a romantic, slightly wild character that has drawn travelers for generations.
This poster translates Glen Affric's landscape into the language of classic travel art. The composition uses layered silhouettes to suggest distance and depth: dark firs in the foreground, mid-toned hills, and pale, atmospheric mountains in the distance. The palette is deliberately restrained - dusky golds, soft mauves, deep forest greens and cool lake blues - chosen to echo dusk light spilling across lochs and the warm tones of bracken on the slopes. The treatment is both modern and vintage, with clean shapes and a subtly textured finish that evokes printed posters of the early 20th century.
Typography plays an important role. Bold, pared-back lettering anchors the image and offers a nod to traditional travel posters without overwhelming the landscape.
