Llyn Clywedog sits like a quiet secret among the hills of Mid Wales, where a simple sweep of water threads its way between grassy slopes and winding lanes. This travel poster celebrates that hush - the reservoir seen at a moment of stillness, when light pools on the surface and the surrounding ridges hold the sky. It is a place both generous and restrained: a landscape that asks you to slow down, to listen to the birds and the soft sigh of wind across the water.
The story here is one of valley and river, of a dam that tames a stream to make room for a broad lake. The reservoir is a modern feature in a region whose history runs deeper still - ancient tracks, farms and small settlements that have long leaned on these hills for shelter and sustenance. Walkers and anglers come for the solitude; families come for afternoon rambles and picnic suppers. All bring a habit of noticing small things - the silver of a trout's flash, the way cloud shadows sweep copper across a hillside, the smell of wet grass after rain.
This poster channels that attentive mood through a pared-back, travel-poster aesthetic. Flat planes of colour define the contours of hill and water, while soft gradients suggest changing weather and distance. The palette is deliberately restrained: deep teal for the reservoir, muted greens and olive for the slopes, warm sandstone and ochre for shoreline and typography, and a cool sky that eases from pale blue to a gentle, sun-washed tone. Together these choices create an image that feels like a memory - familiar, comforting and a touch nostalgic.
Typography plays its part like a steady companion: a clean, vintage-inspired sans serif set in warm ochre anchors the composition, echoing classic holiday posters of the past. The layout leaves generous breathing room around the artwork, inviting the eye to travel from foreground water to distant ridgeline.
