Breathe in the hush of ancient trees and the gentle rush of a river: this travel poster captures Tollymore Forest Park as a place for quiet discovery and romantic walks. Nestled in County Down at the foothills of the Mourne Mountains, Tollymore is a landscape of wooded glens, stone arch bridges and riverside curves that has long invited travellers to slow down and wander.
The image celebrates the park's atmosphere rather than map-like detail. A stone bridge arches over a lazy, reflective river, framed by layered silhouettes of conifers and broadleaf canopies. Rolling green hills rise beyond in soft bands of colour, suggesting the nearby mountains without distracting from the intimacy of the glen. The composition leads the eye along the water's ribbon, promising adventure around the next bend - a classic travel-poster invitation to set off and explore.
History feels present in the poster's mood. Tollymore has an estate past and a long tradition of woodland management, visible in the careful stonework and the planned avenues and paths that wind through the trees. The poster hints at that romantic history with sheltered vistas and timeless architectural touches, yet it always returns to the living, breathing beauty of the forest: dappled light on trunks, the echo of footsteps on leaf-strewn tracks, and a sense that every turn reveals something new.
Colour and style are at the heart of the design. The palette favours layered greens - deep pine, moss and olive - offset by cool river blues and a warm cream border that recalls classic mid-century travel lithographs. Flat planes of colour and simplified forms give the scene a calm, graphic clarity. Shadows are rendered as broad strokes rather than minute detail, which heightens the poster's nostalgic, easy-to-read quality and makes it equally striking on a wall or in a gallery of travel art.
