Loch Lomond sits at the heart of Scotland's storied Highlands - a long, glacial freshwater loch ringed by hills, islands and pine-clad slopes. It is a place where history and landscape meet: ancient walking routes, quiet fishing coves and the slow sweep of seasonal light that has inspired song and story for generations. The loch and its surrounding hills form part of Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park, a landscape of heathered hills, woodland and sheltered bays that invites both quiet reflection and the pure joy of exploration.
This travel poster captures that dual spirit of romance and adventure. The composition draws the eye across layered ridges to the unmistakable profile of Ben Lomond, while a calm, island-dappled surface reflects tiny sails drifting on the water. Colours are chosen to suggest the shifting moods of the loch: warm ochres and honeyed golds for late-afternoon light, muted teals and slate blues for water and distant hills, and gentle olive and forest greens for the shoreline trees. The result is a poster that feels both timeless and modern - a celebration of place rendered in clean, stylised forms.
There is a human history threaded through the landscape. Small villages and old lochside inns have long welcomed travellers; the area has a nautical past with pleasure steamers and rowing boats once common on the water. Folk songs and Gaelic place names echo around the banks, and the famous melody about the "bonnie banks" captures something of the loch's melancholic beauty. Today, walkers follow well-trodden paths, sailors catch the breeze, and families picnic by secret beaches - all continuing a long tradition of enjoying this remarkable stretch of water.
Wildlife is part of the romance too. Ospreys return in summer, red deer move through the hills at dusk, and otters can sometimes be glimpsed near the shallows.
