Perched above Newtownards on a windswept ridge, Scrabo Tower has stood as a sentinel over County Down since the 19th century. This travel poster celebrates that simple, proud silhouette - a Victorian-era landmark that draws walkers, photographers and anyone with a taste for wide skies and wild horizons. From the hill's open heath you can trace the sweep of the Ards Peninsula, watch light stitch the surface of Strangford Lough and, on a clear day, find the Mourne Mountains on the far horizon. That view - elemental, spacious, full of promise - is the heart of this print.
History here feels close to the ground. The tower was raised in a century of monuments and follies, a rugged piece of architecture set against the ever-changing Irish weather. Locals have long regarded Scrabo as a meeting place: for Sunday walks, for courting couples seeking quiet shelter, and for families who return year after year. The patchwork of fields below, the hedgerows and gulls, the small towns that thread the coastline - all add to a sense of rootedness. This poster honours those layers of place and memory while turning them into a timeless invitation to explore.
The design leans on classic travel-poster stylings: clean, confident shapes and a pared-back composition so the tower remains the unmistakable focal point. Colours are deliberately warm and atmospheric - sunlit ochres and sandstone browns for the hill and tower, with soft aquamarine and pastel blues to suggest the sea and sky. Those tones sit alongside cream borders and bold, condensed type that recall mid-century travel graphics. The result is romantic without being overwrought, nostalgic without feeling dated.
Typography is part of the mood. Strong lettering at the base of the image anchors the scene like a welcome sign, while the negative space around the tower gives the eye room to wander.
