The Seven Sisters Cliffs on the Sussex coast are one of England's most beloved natural landmarks: a sequence of luminous white chalk faces that step down to the English Channel, framed by rolling green downland above. This travel poster honours that coastline with a warm, nostalgic palette and a pared-back graphic style that celebrates both the drama of the cliffs and the quiet intimacy of a coastal walk.
Geology and landscape are at the heart of the Seven Sisters' appeal. The chalk was laid down from ancient seabed sediments millions of years ago, then sculpted by wind and wave into cliffs, coves and headlands. From the top of the South Downs you can look back over a wide sweep of countryside dotted with sheep, and forward to the endless strip of sea. That meeting of land and water, bright white chalk against a deep blue horizon, is precisely what this poster aims to capture: bold planes of colour, gentle gradients for sky and sea, and simplified shadow to suggest the cliff faces' layered texture.
There is a long cultural life to these cliffs. They have inspired painters, poets and photographers, and they sit at the edge of an English story that blends seaside leisure, wartime memory and quiet rural life. Walkers on the South Downs Way pass along the ridge and pause to watch fishing boats on the Channel or the play of light across the chalk. Seaside towns nearby lend the area a lived-in charm - tearooms, coin-operated binoculars and the distant sound of gulls - all small human notes against a vast natural backdrop.
Romance and adventure come easily here. The path along the cliff-top invites improvised picnics, first kisses sheltered from the wind, dog walks that end with sandy paws. The poster seeks to conjure those moments: a warm horizon, a sense of movement in the sea, and typography that feels like an old travel card nailed to a station wall.
