Bamburgh Castle sits like a storybook on the Northumberland coast, a magnificently perched fortress that has watched the North Sea for centuries. This travel poster celebrates that sense of history and the wild beauty that surrounds it - wind-swept beaches, sculpted dunes and the endless sweep of horizon - all rendered in a classic poster style that feels both nostalgic and new.
Walkers and dreamers have long been drawn to Bamburgh. The castle's origins reach back to early medieval times, its stone ramparts rebuilt, reshaped and restored through wars, legend and quiet domestic lives. In the poster the castle's silhouette is honest and elemental: towers and battlements simplified into clean shapes, bathed in the warm glow of a lowering sun. That simplicity is the point - the image invites you to imagine stepping into the scene, to stroll a beach path toward the cliff and feel the sea air on your face.
Northumberland's coastline is a place of contrasts. On one hand there is the human story - a fortress that defended and governed, families who called the castle home, and the village of Bamburgh below with its fishing and tradition. On the other hand are the elemental forces of the coast: tides that carve the sands, winds that give the grasses movement, and light that alters every hour. This poster captures both. The colour palette leans on muted golds, soft ochres and coastal blues, with shadowed greens for the headland - a combination that honours northern light and suggests the quiet romance of a seaside evening.
The design takes inspiration from vintage travel art: bold composition, flat planes of colour and thoughtful negative space. Typography is deliberately clean and confident, sitting beneath the image like an invitation. The mood is contemplative rather than flashy; it's a call to slow travel and to savour a particular place.
