This travel poster is a celebration of Aberdaron, the little coastal village that sits at the far west of the Llyn Peninsula in Wales. It captures more than a view: the sense of arrival at the edge of the land, where green hills fold down to golden sand and the sea draws the eye toward the distant silhouette of Bardsey Island. The scene honours Aberdaron's long relationship with the sea - a place of fishing, pilgrimage and quiet domestic life - and invites you to imagine evenings spent watching the tide change colour under a wide Atlantic sky.
History lives in the painting as much as landscape. The stone church that anchors the composition is a reminder of St Hywyn's long tenure overlooking the bay, the last familiar landmark before the channel to Ynys Enlli (Bardsey). For centuries pilgrims set off from Aberdaron to the island once called the 'Island of 20,000 Saints', and that sense of a small harbour as both departure point and shelter is part of the village's character. The poster hints at that layered past without telling the whole story - inviting closer inspection and the kind of curiosity that begins journeys.
Culturally, Aberdaron still wears the language and traditions of north-west Wales. Welsh words are spoken in the shopfronts and on signposts; local community life is shaped by a rhythm of tides, festivals and simple routines. The poster aims to evoke that human scale: a cluster of whitewashed cottages, the familiar slope of lanes leading down to the sand, and the folded shapes of hills that offer shelter from the stronger Atlantic days. These are the things that make the place both homely and quietly heroic.
The landscape here is essential to the romance. The Llyn Peninsula's headlands swoop into the sea, offering sheltered coves and long coastal walks.
