Perched amid the gentle folds of Aberdeenshire farmland, Castle Fraser has the kind of presence that feels borrowed from a storybook. This travel poster celebrates that quiet grandeur - the tower house rising from an estate of ancient trees, lawns and winding lanes - and invites you to imagine a slow, sunlit walk through Scotland's history.
Built in the long arc between the late 16th and early 17th centuries, Castle Fraser is one of the finest examples of Scotland's great tower houses. Its stepped gables, round turrets and inner courtyard tell of generations who shaped the place: families who defended, entertained and farmed this land. The poster nods to that layered past without crowding it, emphasising the castle's sculptural silhouette against the sweeping landscape rather than detailing every stone. The result is a romantic, accessible vision of a house with stories in every room.
The surrounding countryside is as important as the building itself. Aberdeenshire's patchwork of fields, shelterbelts and rolling hills provides a soft, pastoral frame that changes with the seasons: velvet greens in spring, gold in late summer, and warm russet in autumn. This piece captures that shifting light - a late-day glow that bathes turrets and trees in amber - suggesting quiet promenades, picnics by the yew trees and misty mornings on estate trails. Wildlife glimpses, distant farms and the occasional swathe of heather all speak to the rural rhythms that define this corner of Scotland.
Stylistically, the poster draws on the classic travel-poster tradition: simplified forms, confident blocks of colour and a composed, graphic layout. The palette favours warm ochres, muted greens and soft mauves so the image feels both nostalgic and contemporary.
