These thirty-bird bell totas are made by the barefoot college, a Ngo in rural Rajasthan. Established in 1972, the barefoot college is a non-government organization that has been providing basic services and solutions to problems in rural communities, to make them self-sufficient and sustainable. These 'Barefoot solutions' can be broadly categorized into solar energy, water, education, health care, rural handicrafts, people's action, communication, women's empowerment, and wasteland development. Each bird has a small bell attached to the front and back and also has sequins hand sewn onto the sides. Each bird has been threaded onto a string and also has small colored beads separating each bird. There is also a lovely small bell at the bottom. Please note you are buying one 'string' of birds.
