Barrels were used aboard sailing ships to store and preserve provisions, including water, salted meat and (most importantly!) rum. This barrel-style moneybox is made from solid polished hardwood (not plywood or MDF), with brass banding. A screwed flap at the bottom allows access to the precious contents.

This is a very nice box for a boys nicknacks with a key. Thought it was a bit on the expensive side but a nice gift. I replaced the padlock with a more stronger one.. Bev. Tenterden Gb. Thu May 12 2022
