For a contemporary alternative to curtains, this blackout pleated blind keeps out the sun in the mornings and allows you greater control throughout the day. The blind can be opened from both top and bottom depending upon the progress of light through the day, and it has a clamp fix system that attaches directly to a window without drilling any holes in the wall or ceiling. Luckily the set up was straight forward (instructions were in German, but had pictures). I have used the blind on the opening window on a door. The clamps that hold it onto the frame stick out more than I expected and one in particular is close to the door handle and scratches my hand when I lift the handle.
