Stumpy little steam-powered cargo ships like these were once a familiar sight around the West Coast of Scotland, providing an essential supply link ferrying goods and coal around the islands - their flat bottoms allowing them to the beach and unload in places that lacked suitable Piers. Although only a handful remains in service today, they are instantly recognized and much loved thanks largely to the short stories by Neil Munro about Vital spark and her Captain Para handy.

Developed in 1938 from a Schneider trophy-winning design by the aeronautical engineer and designer R.J Mitchell, the Supermarine Spitfire became the hero of the Battle of Britain in the summer of 1940. Spitfires remained in service until 1961 – well into the jet age – by which time more than 20,000 had been produced. In tribute, this Spitfire desk sculpture has been cast in solid recycled aluminium and polished to a high sheen such that its subtle curves and angles catch the light.

Vintage Fire Engine Ornament

The enormous delta-winged Avro Vulcan was designed as the mainstay of the V-bomber fleet - our Cold War nuclear deterrent. However, its finest hour was arguably the audacious long-range ‘Black Buck’ raids of the Falklands conflict. The Vulcan served from 1956 until October 2015, when the last example (XH558) was withdrawn from service and restored to become a much-loved highlight of air shows and displays. Instantly recognisable, seeing (and hearing!) one in flight was an experience not to be forgotten. Sadly, even XH558 no longer flies - the task of keeping her in an airworthy condition proving insurmountable. In tribute, this Vulcan desk sculpture has been cast in solid aluminium and polished to a high sheen such that its subtle curves and angles catch the light.

Horns have been used in shipping and other forms of transport for centuries to attract attention and give warning, particularly in fog. Their traditional mouth horns are solid brass with nickel-plated mouthpieces and strong brass 'reeds' For longevity. Their 'taxi' Horns have rubber bulbs and deliver a hefty, and somewhat amusing, 'honk honk', evoking images of classic early cars negotiating crowded city streets and bustling harbors being Criss-crossed by a myriad of small craft.

Douglas DC-3/C-47 Skytrain Introduced into service in 1936, the Douglas DC-3 revolutionised commercial aviation – accounting for 80% of the world’s airline traffic by 1940 – thanks to a combination of capacity, speed, range, and economical operation which finally made passenger travel profitable for airlines. These same qualities suited military use with the aircraft, designated C-47, providing the backbone of the Allies’ transport efforts throughout the second world war – most notably delivering paratroopers and towing gliders during the D-Day landings. Around 11,000 were built, and some can still be found in service around the world today. In tribute, our DC-3 desk sculpture has been cast in solid aluminium and polished to a high sheen such that its subtle curves and angles catch the light.
