Really lovely fire effect, as good as I hoped. The whole unit stays cool and the heat comes from underneath. There is a fan sound when the heat is on but with just flame effect it's totally silent and it really does make you feel warmer watching it. I use the heat in the morning instead of putting the central heating on, before i leave for work. Hard to find a reasonably priced slate hearth stone, so i used 4 slate placemats to protect my rug and this works perfectly. Great purchase! Remember, don't use extension leads, straight in the mains socket and unplug when not in use, for safety.
