Traditionally used on a ledge and braced door, a thumb latch set is a decorative door latch with a thumb-shaped lever. When the thumb-shaped lever is pressed down this operates a thumb bar that passes through the door, this lifts the latch bar on the opposite side causing it to open.

The Victorian latch is cast iron with brass fittings. It is a dual-handed and thumbnail rim latch with a hand-aged finish. Complete with the emergency release, facilitating access from outside the room, making it ideal for use on a bathroom door. Each lock is hand-finished and is supplied with a lock keep.

These rim locks are fitted to the surface of the door rather than being morticed in, along with a surface-mounted keep that should be fitted to the door frame.
