Beehouse: Each bee prefers a different diameter. Masonry bees for example, will choose the holes with a diameter of 3 to 7mm (0.12" to 0.47") while Hylaeus will occupy the ones with a diameter of 2 to 4 mm (0.08" to 0.16"). A female bee creates cells in a deep narrow wooden hole with a supply of pollen and nectar and for the larvae. Wild bees seal their tubes with loam. There are several things to consider when choosing a location for the beehouse. Choose a sunny location with protection from wind and rain. Warmth is important for the offspring. Attach the insect hotel at a height of 1,5 to 2m (4,92" to 6,56"), facing south. Make sure the entrances on the front side can be easily seen by the insects. Native plants, herbs, blossoming flowers, shrubs and trees nearby will ensure a fully booked beehouse. They will provide the food for the insects. Loam, sand and water should also be nearby. Europe is home to hundreds of other bee species. These bees help to fertilise plants and flowers in your garden, and will very rarely sting. With this beehouse you can offer several bees at the same time the opportunity to nest and hibernate.

I ended up purchasing the 11x7 Poppy greenhouse over the Memorial Day weekend, after reading a multitude of reviews. Based on those reviews I decided to give Backyard Discovery a chance. From delivery to final build I could not have been happier with the experience. As a DIYer, this was in my wheelhouse. What was most impressive was the build instructions, which were complimented by the online 3D app. The inventory list for each box was invaluable in saving time from having to look for the multitude of parts and hardware. To make the build easier, I set up a 6ft table in my garage and placed all of the hardware in plastic containers which were arranged numerically. This preparation will save an enormous amount of time searching for specific hardware. The quality of the cedar was very good, solid, and consistent. Throughout the build, the instructions actually had notes, in red, that were important “lookouts” so as not to make an error with regards to specific part orientation or sequence. As I worked my way through the build, the more impressed I became with the instructions and how I could tell that the folks responsible for the instructions were truly hands-on common sense engineers. My hat off to the company for their efforts in making these projects enjoyable along with providing a wonderful finished product…that appears to last. As with any quality build, if you do not ensure that the pad is level and the sidewalls are not square and level, you will not have an enjoyable experience. Product arrived on time, no problems there. Product as described and construction is of average quality. For what we wanted,- a storage shed for garden furniture that looked attractive when set in the garden it’s just fine. However, as a Summer house the construction is somewhat flimsy and wouldn’t put up with much active wear and tear. The roofing felt provided only just covered the roof and was of thin quality so we thought it necessary to place a second layer of tougher, more substantial roofing felt. First of all 5 stars and more to Wayfair especially to Lucy in customer services for sorting out the issues we had with the summer house. Summer house arrived on time. Good communication from the delivery company regarding emails and text messages - no problems until we started to check the package. So due to the issues we had I am only giving the summer house 3 stars at a push simply for the quality of the summerhouse. Sadly the workmanship is a little poor, nails either too far in creating holes for you to fill with wood filler, or nails that need an hammer to tap in but not all can be tapped in due to how near the nails are to the windows. (Windows are perspex and not glass). Nails sticking out here there and everywhere. Arrived with some parts damaged, 1 x window dropped out as it wasnt nailed in (nails missing). Bits of wood broken and cracked which we managed to sort. Instructions are pretty poor but we are skilled people so we did work it out eventually. Panels arrived with nails in wrong places or nails cracking the wood nails also where they shouldn't be so had to be cut off using a dremel (couldn't hammer them back out due to the angle they had been put in during the manufacturing process). We bought extra sanding sheets and wood filler before painting it. The reason we didn't send it back was due to the fact we do actually love it and it was the correct and perfect size for our small garden. Took roughly 3 to 4 hours to put up and took around 3 coats of paint over a few days. Rang Wayfair and supplied them with plenty of photos of the damages and flaws. This handcrafted bumblebee house to encourage beneficial insects into your garden. The bamboo tubes provide the ideal nesting habitat for many of the over 200 species of solitary bee found in the UK. They lay their eggs in the tubes which are sealed in with a parcel of food made from either cut leaves or mud. The eggs change to larvae and then pupae which hatch out into new bees the following spring. The chamber with the slotted entrance provides shelter for moths and butterflies, many of which hibernate over winter. The pine cones provide the perfect shelter for ladybirds, the scourge of aphids. The mesh has been designed to permit access to native ladybirds only, and not the slightly larger, invasive Harlequin ladybirds which prey on our natural species. The section with blocks opens so that you can add leaf litter in the autumn, which acts as good overwinter habitat for another predator of aphids, the lacewing. Ideally, insect houses should be located in a South, South East or South-West facing location in a sheltered position close to, but not obscured by, vegetation. A nicely produced hardwood kit which took me one hour to build inside the lounge for ease of comfort. I studied the instructions, read them twice, overnight, and went to build with no problems. The allen key with its hard edges can make your fingers and hand a bit sore- but no gain without pain! I am very pleased with the greenhouse and it seems a shame to put it outside!
