The wicker has gaps in the sides which allow for circulation, keeping the crop cool and elongating the storage life. In order to stop the potatoes from chitting (sprouting), we do recommend keeping the hopper in a dark, cool room or corner of the kitchen. A well-made willow storage basket that will hold its strength for many years and this lovely antique brown willow potato hopper will be no exception. Within its rustic charm, however, lies a genuine potato storage container that is ideal in every way for its purpose. It keeps the crop airy and shielded from light, from deteriorating, or from going green. Unlike potatoes in a sack where there is no option but to take the ones at the top, the scooped access at the base allows for selection from the bottom of the pile. Easily filled with a handled lid, the hopper will hold a very generous 15-20kg of potatoes or any other root vegetable that is better out of the fridge or removed from its plastic bag.
