This raised bed is well worth paying a little more for. It took about an hour and a half to assemble (32 screws) but the finished product is excellent quality. It is very sturdy, strong, fade proof, waterproof and has a modern colouring to blend into most gardens, it won't need painting or treating, and I found it a good height for me at 5 foot 5 inches. Once filled with soil it is also wind proof. You can plant about 15 lettuce comfortably, or more if you plant them closer still. The bonus for me which I was not aware of before ordering, is the water gauge. The gauge tells you when to water your plants, or if there is too much water in the bed, if it is flooded from rain there is a plug to release the excess water onto the ground below or into a watering can. The product is a must for protecting young plants during the colder months. This generously sized wooden framed grow-house also provides a place for plants to be hardened off in spring prior to planting out, and to be protected from frosts in the evening and morning in the autumn. Made from a stained wood frame with twin-walled polycarbonate sheets, the cold frame comes flat packed and requires home assembly. There are 3 shelves, a hinged opening top, and 2 opening doors with a fastener to keep them firmly shut when required. This plant grow-house offers exceptional value.

Choose the shape that suits your needs: as a long, narrow bed, as a traditional square bed, or one of two rectangular shapes. At 38-39cm high (bed height may vary +/-50mm), it’s suitable for all types of vegetables, herbs and flowers and minimises bending and stooping when you’re planting or weeding. We recommend placing the bottom edge of the bed in a layer of 10-20mm gravel. This allows excellent drainage and protects the bottom edge of the bed. Placing on level ground is also advised. No liner is required. Flat packed for home assembly, the no-tools-assembly kit includes hardware plus plastic protective edging for the top edge.
