Gold is definitely flashier than expected but still very nice and easy to assemble.

I really like the lamp. I ordered two, but the shade on one was damaged, so I am getting a replacement. You have to put the shade together, but it looks good and assembly was pretty easy. Putting together the lamp was really easy, also. It was odd that the lamp did not have a conventional plug, but I had read the other reviews and made sure I ordered an accessory to adapt to the wall outlet. It adds cost of the lamp, but the style with the shelves was what I wanted, so I made the investment.
