Shark HZ500UK Review If you’re looking for a lightweight vacuum cleaner that doesn’t compromise on performance, the Shark HZ500UK is an excellent option to consider. I live in a 4-bed home with a mix of carpets and hard floors, but with low footfall as it’s mostly just me — the kids only visit occasionally. For my usage, the Shark HZ500UK has been a great choice. Pros -Compact and easy to store — The flexible Flexology wand bends to clean under furniture without needing to crouch, and it folds down neatly for compact storage — ideal if you’re tight on space or don’t want a bulky vacuum sitting out. -User-friendly — lightweight and easy to manoeuvre, especially on stairs and around tight spaces. -DuoClean floorhead — Despite having a smaller motor than full uprights or cylinders, the DuoClean floorhead provides strong carpet agitation to lift dirt effectively — and it’s equally efficient on hard floors. -The Anti-Hair Wrap technology helps stop hair from getting tangled around the brushroll, reducing the need for frequent maintenance. -The floorhead is also easy to clean, and switching between Hard Floor and Carpet Modes is simple and quick, ensuring the right level of suction and agitation for each surface. -Corded convenience — No need to worry about charging or loss of suction like some cordless models. The 10m power cable also gives you good reach across multiple rooms without constantly switching sockets. -Simple maintenance — small bin means quick removal and emptying; filters are easy to access and clean. -Low to moderate noise level - It isn’t overly loud compared to many uprights or cylinders — comfortable enough for regular use without disturbing the whole house. -Affordable running costs — replacement parts aren’t overly expensive. -5-year Shark warranty — adds confidence and value. Things to Consider -Small dust bin (0.3L) — fills up quickly, especially if cleaning multiple rooms at once — but the design makes it very easy to remove, empty, and reattach, so maintenance remains hassle-free. -Not ideal for high-traffic homes — households with kids, pets, and heavily used carpets may need something with deeper cleaning power (larger corded upright or a strong cylinder) and a bigger bin capacity. Accessories: -Comes with a crevice tool and a multi-surface upholstery tool with an attachable brush, ideal for sofas, curtains, stairs and the car. Plus, additional accessories are available on the Shark website — and they’re not too expensive, which keeps long-term use affordable. Recommendation -For homes like mine — where carpets don’t get heavily soiled — the HZ500UK is a strong primary vacuum that’s reliable, convenient, and comfortable to use. However, for busy family homes: -Choose a full-sized upright or cylinder as the main vacuum. -Use a cordless as your quick-grab secondary for daily mess. The HZ500UK would feel underpowered as the only cleaner in a high-traffic household. Price & Value: RRP: £179.99 I managed to get mine during the Black Friday sale for £115, which felt like a fantastic deal for a premium brand vacuum — especially with a full 5-year Shark warranty included. Even at the usual retail price, it still offers very good value considering the build quality, convenience, and cleaning performance it provides.
