Nesting Boxes

I like this box we will see how well it works once my chickens start laying. Chickens like to lay off the back edge so the eggs land on the floor. The eggs that do stay in do not roll down as they should since in true bird fashion the chickens build their own nest in each box which prevents the eggs from moving. They also refuse to use the upper level at all.

This looked like it could be a good fit for our girls, but, unfortunately, it was not. Once it's put together, it is sturdy, though there are a few drawbacks that didn't work for us. 1. The edges are very sharp; there is nothing to cover/pad the metal edges or the screws. 2. We do use wood chips in our nesting boxes; there are slats in the bottom of the laying boxes and the chips fell straight through 3. The boxes are a bit too narrow for our girls. This would be best suited for bantams. 4. I would have had a bit of trouble putting this together alone. The two of us figured it out together, so two heads were definitely better than one. We ended up giving it away and building our own boxes with wood.
