I really like this throw, I use it on our tiled floor next to the dog's bed so she has a choice of places to lie ;0) It's a hard wearing hessian like fabric on the patterned side with a soft sheepskin style underneath. It has nice little deer head badge on it too so looks stylish. I'm finding that I can brush the patterned side (when Poppy decides to decorate the house with half the garden, so I just use a dust pan and brush rather than have to bother with the Hoover. I suspet it may soften up after washing but it will still be hardy I think and it doesn't hold on to burdocks and sticky buds like fleece or knitted throws can. A really nice addition to my home, thank you!
