Too small for young rats. I think the description has been updated since I bought this.. the bars are too far apart for young rats.. our 3 are constantly escaping (had to buy extra wiring to put round it). Hopefully the rats will be too big to escape soon. That said, it is a lovely looking cage, easy to assemble and to clean, and the wheels make it super easy to move around.
