Bc they are handmade I’m guessing, mine came with a “hook” in the one side and because of packaging, it just wasn’t worth returning for a different one. It’s also a little darker than I expected. But I’ve gotten used to it’s quirk and it does what I need.

We just moved to Az and wanted some Boho western vibe going on in our breakfast nook. Love the ladder. Looks great with all the other furniture we bought from Wayfair.
