I bought this arbour to replace my old one, which had rotted due to the difficulty of repainting all the fiddly bits. This one looks really good and was very easy to paint I altered the layout when assembling so that the side panels had the smooth sides facing out so that the rain would run off easier instead of sitting on the little ledges, and it was easier to paint. The only downside with the quality was that there were a few places where the nails had come through or missed the struts when the arbour was made at the factory and one or two splinters, and bad nail gunning. I painted all the parts prior to assembling (and after) which made it easier to get into all the little splinters and rough bits, and also there could have been a few edging strips to hide and protect the edges where back and front panels met, and the diamond at the back could have done with a decorative strip to hide the nails. HOWEVER Overall for the money it is good value. I am making a couple of ledges for the side windows to hold a cup and it will also hide/protect the edges of the panels.. Vivienne. The bench is well made for the price, but the assembly instructions are of very poor quality. The diagrams are both inadequate and misleading, eg the A x 2 panels, shown as identical in the crude drawing, are not in fact identical and have to be fixed a certain way. The same applies to the B x 2 and G x 2 panels. The fixings on the F x 2 struts are not as shown on the totally inadequate drawing. Some of the major pieces also small paper stickers on their ends with J, J1, J2 or J3 on them, but nothing is included to explain these. The actual materials of the bench are mostly OK but the fixings on the ends of the R x 4 cords are of poor quality. I would have given the bench 4 stars in terms of its quality but the instructions are so poor that I have made it 2 stars - 'room to improve'.. Anonymous. Fri May 29 2026

Would have been willing for a replacement but they couldn't deliver and pick up on the same day and I was unwilling to dedicate three days to this as you only get a time slot for pick up the day before and I work. Our outdoor storage benches are made using vintage style apple crates, they are raised off the ground with rubber feet to prevent the wood sitting on wet surfaces, the lids are hinged and upholstered in 12 ounce canvas which is a Polyester / Cotton mix. This fabric is perfect for use outside due to it being flame retardant, water, rot and mildew resistant.
