The little-known GPS of Ancient Times. Perhaps the most used multipurpose astronomical instrument in history, the astrolabe is known to have been in use since at least 200BC and rose to prominence in the Middle Ages. Essentially, it’s an elaborate inclinometer-cum-slide rule, used to measure the altitude above the horizon of a celestial body. It can be used to identify stars or planets, to determine local latitude, to survey, and even determine your horoscope. The arrival, in the 17th-18th centuries, of accurate sextants and reliable portable chronometers rendered the astrolabe obsolete for navigation at sea, but it remains a fascinating and little-understood instrument. This replica, in polished brass, sits in a wooden plinth and stands 18cm tall.

This is made from cold cast bronze and is a classic figurine for the home. "Cold Cast Bronze" is a technique used for making figurines, it involves blending bronze powders with a specially formulated resin to produce a material that is applied to the interior of a silicone mold. The mold is then filled with a blend of resin and bronze metal powder, the figurine is then left to set. The finished item has the same appealing look as a bronze figurine, has a cool feel, and is weighted. All in all, a cold cast bronze figurine is a piece of art produced for a fraction of the cost of solid bronze but still carrying the same incredible detail and design. All Marlow Home Co. bronze figurines and figures are produced this way. From bronze horse figurines to elephants, hares to dogs all care in exactly the same way. Dust your bronze figurine with an untreated cloth or duster, and use absolutely no chemicals at all. If your figurine is very detailed or has hard places use an artist's paintbrush. All of Marlow Home Co. cold cast bronze products are of course very fragile so be careful!

Love the new planter. My one complaint is that it is just thrown in a box and shipped. Two of the metal "flower petals" were bent. I bent them back up, but they have cracks in the finish now. I strongly advise DT to start putting cushioning on the petals to protect them. Otherwise, it looks great in my yard!. Texasgardener37. Fort Worth, TX. Fri Jun 02 2023
