Large (496mm) old Swiss clockmakers's dial, non pendulum. The parchment colour of the dial gives this clock its realistic antique feel.

It’s a good solid and very attractive clock, exactly the size I wanted. One AA Battery and full instructions on changing the time, ( if only I’d had instructions like this with my previous lovely similar clock when the clocks went forward perhaps the hands wouldn’t have fallen off). This clock is the perfect focal point for your kitchen, conservatory or garden patio.

Pretty good. Sorry about the dark photo. The bigger clock is “the real deal”……..a 1951 version in perfect condition. Obviously much larger, and it is very cool and special, but the modern one catches a fair degree of the original coolness. While the modern one is branded as Smiths, the original is branded as Smith, but the two seemed to be pretty much interchangeable. The tail of the red second hand is too long, but only noticeable alongside the original. The only thing that lets it down for me is that the face is just too white (again, compared to the beautiful ageing of the original face). Being so much smaller means that it will never have the gravitas of the original, but again, you know the size when you buy it, so no surprises there. The modern clock’s (few) shortcomings are only evident when set side by side with an original, and that’s an unfair battle. On its own, this little homage clock is very nice indeed.. Anonymous. Very attractive clock. I chose it because it has a metal, rather than plastic, surround, and has elegant vintage detailing on the clock hands. Delivery took about 4 days. The price was ok though not what I would call a bargain. My only niggle is that the clock and frame come as separate pieces - the clock face has to be secured into the frame at the back by means of 3 strong 'U' shaped wires supplied, which fit between the clock itself and the outer edge of the frame. Trying to get these in place was a bit of a struggle, as you have to force the 'legs' of the wires apart in order to fit them under the rim of the metal frame to ensure the necessary tension, and you have to make sure the 'XII" on the face stays in line with the hanging hole while you are working with the back of the clock, as the face cannot be moved within the frame after the wires are in place, but once done it felt very secure, the clock looked great and I'm very happy with it..
