These thirty-bird bell totas are made by the barefoot college, a Ngo in rural Rajasthan. Established in 1972, the barefoot college is a non-government organization that has been providing basic services and solutions to problems in rural communities, to make them self-sufficient and sustainable. These 'Barefoot solutions' can be broadly categorized into solar energy, water, education, health care, rural handicrafts, people's action, communication, women's empowerment, and wasteland development. Each bird has a small bell attached to the front and back and also has sequins hand sewn onto the sides. Each bird has been threaded onto a string and also has small colored beads separating each bird. There is also a lovely small bell at the bottom. Please note you are buying one 'string' of birds. They make an ideal door hanging and are traditional in Indian households when welcoming guests. These bell totas are not toys; they contain small pieces so are unsuitable for children. Due to the handmade nature of these products, colors,s, and designs may slightly but loveliness comes as standard.
