We've had the Dakota Fields retractable awning (395cm x 250cm) since May 2025 and have been very happy with it. We went with a manual (non-motorized) version as winding it out is fairly straightforwards and not a hassle. For whatever minor inconvenience that comes with that process, it far outweighs the hassle factor that comes with when the motorized unit eventually fails and the hassle that goes with replacement and inability to be used so I haven't regretted that decision—it operates easily and keeps things simple. We had it installed by a local builder, and every winter we keep it fully rolled in to protect it from the weather. As you can see from the image below - a protective shield over the item during prolonger periods of non-use will most likely prevent the bleaching. The only minor issue we've noticed is a small amount of discolouration on the outer edge, which we suspect is from sun bleaching of the section that remains exposed while the awning is rolled up. A protective cover during prolonged periods of non-use would probably help prevent this. Overall, it's been a great purchase and offers excellent value (€279) so I would recommend it to as a buy.. Fabulous Large box with lock. Took a while to build as its got lots of screws, washers and nuts. The instruction were not too bad but some part were hard to understand. (Used you tube for help with the lock) Once made the box is sturdy and moves about on the wheels easily. being metal it should be great in winter, however, it does has some small gaps at the bottom so i am going to use a water proof silicon to make a complete barrier to the outside, no spiders or insects getting in that way. Great bench perfect for any size garden. Storage part is not waterproof, but is a handy storage area. I have kept a waterproof bag in mine so that I can keep blankets etc in. So easy to put together, two of us put it together just so one could stabilise while the other screwed it together but could be put together with one person. I like this. It's sturdy enough to sit on and the wood top is very attractive against the grey wicker-effect, plus there is loads of storage space. NB I am using it in my summerhouse, not outdoors, so have not put it to the test in terms of weather-proofing. It looks like the inner bags may be waterproof, but not the mesh sides, which would let water in, and, being plastic, might fade in the sun over time, hence 4 stars, not 5.
